Owners Sean Ricci and Austin Scott met while working at beer bars together. Their passion for brewing began with a 5-gallon pot and late nights in Ricci’s kitchen. Ricci says, “We built a draft system and turned my garage into a bar so we could host parties and have our friends try our beer.” After falling in love with the process and the art of beer the boys needed to learn more, to become better, to master their craft. After working in the commercial beer industry for a short time Ricci and Scott decided it was time to bring their backyard dream to a reality. With no investors, no bank loans, just a few thousand dollars each in their savings accounts, Ricci and Scott emptied everything they had financially, mentally, and emotionally into one single batch of beer. Thus Hoax was officially created on Saturday March 24 th 2018. The name Hoax came from their eagerness to deliver quality homebrews to their friends and fans but not wanting to take the time to come up with the “perfect” name. Ricci suggested just using Fake or Counterfeit, or Hoax as a placeholder at the time, Hoax was chosen, and the name stuck. Over the past 6 years the boys have turned that single batch of beer into a thriving business still sticking to their DIY roots self-distributing and delivering the beers by hand to over 500 accounts throughout the entire state of CT. To this day owner Austin Scott will be the one walking into your bar to deliver your keg with a smile on his face.
